Pottawattamie County Sports & Family Chiropractic provides a personalized treatment plan for every patient. Our services include:
Active Release Technique
Active Release Technique (ART) is a soft tissue, movement-based therapy used to treat injured muscles, ligaments, tendons, fascia and nerves. It is considered to be one of the most sought after therapies due to its effectiveness in decreasing pain and increasing range of motion.
When your muscles are injured or over-stressed, your body produces scar tissue to heal itself. As the scar tissue builds up, your muscles become weak, creating tension in the nerves and tendons. ART helps break up the adhesions, allowing your body to form new, healthy tissue.
Chiropractic ADJUSTMENTS / Manipulation
Chiropractic adjustments are one of the most common manual therapy techniques performed in our clinic. This type of treatment targets specific spinal and extremity joints to restore function/range of motion and decrease pain.
CLASS IV LASER THERAPY *
We’re proud to offer the industry’s leading and most powerful Class IV Laser, which uses specific wavelengths of light to create therapeutic effects on the body. This pain-free, non-invasive treatment option is designed to help patients reduce pain and inflammation, increase range of motion, and speed up recovery times. In most cases, patients experience noticeable improvements after just 1-2 treatments, though additional treatments may be recommended.
Cupping therapy *
Cupping is an ancient Chinese therapy that’s based on the belief that certain health problems can be caused by stagnant blood and a poor energy flow through your body. During this type of treatment, Dr. Wiechmann applies silicone cups to your skin to create pressure. The suction promotes blood flow to the affected areas, which in turn can help relieve tension and inflammation in your muscles.
During this treatment, Dr. Wiechmann carefully inserts a “dry” needle (one without medication or liquid) directly into a knot or pressure point in order to relieve tightness and pain in the muscles. Although the treatment is similar to acupuncture, it’s not the same. The primary goal of dry needling is to relieve muscle pain and tension, whereas acupuncture focuses on returning energy flow to a state of balance by removing blocked or interrupted chi.
Fascial Movement Taping *
Functional Movement Taping (FMT) is a type of rehabilitative taping technique designed to provide support and stability for weak or injured muscles. Dr. Wiechmann is specially trained in applying rehabilitative tape, such as ROCKTAPE, and will do so based on individual needs after evaluation.
Functional medicine is a highly cost-effective technique that focuses on addressing the root cause of a disease, not just the symptoms. Our goal is to return you to optimal health by showing you how your diet, lifestyle choices and biomechanical factors can lead to dysfunction. Through a combination of manual therapies and advice on diet, exercise and positive lifestyle choices, we help your body heal itself and get you on the road toward better health, faster and more efficiently.
McKenzie Method of Mechanical Diagnosis & Therapy
The McKenzie Method of MDT is a process used to treat and assess a variety of orthopedic conditions, including back pain, neck pain, shoulder pain, knee pain and ankle pain, as well as sciatica, sacroiliac joint pain, arthritis, degenerative disc disease and muscle spasms. Developed by world-renowned expert physiotherapist Robin McKenzie, this exercise-based approach helps correct muscle mechanics and decrease or eliminate pain.
Nutritional Counseling *
Proper diet and exercise are crucial to maintaining a healthy lifestyle as well as preventing many degenerative diseases. With years of experience and advanced education, Dr. Wiechmann specializes in nutritional counseling and testing for patients of all ages. We also sell high-quality, organic supplements that can only be provided by physicians. Visit our clinic to learn more.
Rehabilitation is an important part of the recovery process following an injury or surgery. Through the use of corrective exercise techniques, Dr. Wiechmann helps patients regain strength, endurance and power, as well as improve flexibility and balance. He also provides helpful education and instructions for continued progress at home.
Soft Tissue Mobilization/Graston technique
Graston Technique® is a type of soft tissue mobilization that utilizes specially designed stainless steel instruments/tools to break down scar tissue and fascial restrictions in the body. As the instruments are moved over the affected area and come in contact with the adhesions, they break up scar tissue and fascial restrictions, which in turn helps relieve pain and restore movement.
Sports Physicals ($25) *
High school athletes are required to have physical examinations before participating in school sports. As a certified Active Release Technique (ART) professional, American Council on Exercise (ACE) personal trainer and former collegiate athlete, Dr. Wiechmann understands the physical demands that are required to live a healthy and active lifestyle. He can identify areas that may be prone to injury and provide at-home exercises to prevent future issues on and off the field. (Please bring all necessary sports participation paperwork to your appointment.)
